Today, SSC had surprised everyone by announcing the Notification, before scheduled Date. As per the SSC Exam Calendar 2016, the Notification, was scheduled to be announced on 13th Feb, 2016, but instead Notification was announced on 9th Feb, 2016.

Following the huge rush of candidates to apply for CGL 2016 Exam, the Official website of SSC was non responsive from the last 2-3 Days, that cause inconvenience to candidates willing to apply for the Exam.
Good News for those, who failed to fill the CGL 2016 Online application form is that SSC had extended the Last Dates by one week. It is worth mentioning here that SSC had already revised these Last Date by 10 Days and now there is another extension of 7 Days.
But SSC makes it clear, that this is the Final Extension in Last Date and after that No representations in this regard will be entertained. Here are the Revised Dates for Submitting the online form
SSC CGL Notification 2016
SSC will release the CGL Notification for 2016 in the first half of 2016, possibly in the month of Feb, 2016. SSC didn’t follow a fixed timetable for the release of Notification. Sometimes, Notification is released in January, sometimes in March and at times in May.
Here are the SSC CGL Notification Dates of the Last 5 years
1) SSC CGL 2011 Notification Date: 19th March, 2011
2) SSC CGL 2012 Notification Date: 24th March, 2012
3) SSC CGL 2013 Notification Date: 19th Jan, 2013
4) SSC CGL 2014 Date of Notification: 18th Jan, 2014
5) SSC CGL 2015 Notification: 2nd May, 2015
6) SSC CGL 2016 Notification : 13th Feb, 2015 (Tentative)
So, as you can see the above List, that SSC never follows a fixed timetable for the release of Notification. So, we cannot comment on the Notification for SSC CGL Exam 2016, unless or until there is an official word on it by SSC.
Tentative Dates: But going by the trend followed by SSC, over the last few years, the most expected time for release of SSC CGL Notification is either Jan 2016 OR March 2016 and the exam date is expected to be around June/July 2016.
What is the Eligibility Criteria ?
If you are willing to appear in the CGL 2016 Exam, then you must full fill the below mentioned eligibility conditions
(I) Age Limit: Applicants, must have attained the age of 18 years and their maximum age should not exceed 27 years. However for some posts the Lower and upper age Limit is different and given as under
1) Assistant Section Officer: 20-30 years
2) Assistant (Intelligence Bureau): 21-27 years
3) Assistant Enforcement Officer: Upto 30 years
4) Sub-Inspector (CBI): 20-30 years
5) Statistical Investigator GR-II: upto 32 years
6) Sub-Inspector (NIA): upto 30 years
7) Assistant Audit Officer: Not exceeding 30 years
8) Sub-Inspector (Narcotics): 18 to 25 years

(II) Educational Qualification: As CGL Exam is a common exam for bulk of posts, and such the Qualification differ, but for most of the posts, the Qualification is Graduation

Selection Process: The Selection Process for CGL Exam comprises of Tier-1 Exam, Tier-2 and Tier-3 (Skill test ) for Few posts only. Admit cards : Applicants, who successfully submit their applications before the last date, will be assigned Roll Nos. Applicants can download the SSC CGL Admit card 2016 from the official website, at least 2 weeks before the exam date .
On 9th august, SSC had announced the complete schedule for Downloading the SSC Admit Card. As per the information, the viewing facility will be available from 12th August, 2016, while the Downloading facility will start form 16th August, 2016.
[Update As on 13th Nov, 2015] : SSC CGL 2016 Dates Announced
On 13th Nov, 2015, SSC had announced its examination calendar for the year 2016-17. As per the Calendar, CGL 2016 Tier-1 Exam is tentatively scheduled on 8th May and 22nd May, 2016
The Notification or Advertisement will be released on 13th Feb, 2016. Although there is still suspense whether the CGL 2016 will be an online Exam Or offline exam and things will get clear only when the SSC CGL 2016 Notification will be announced.

Today, SSC had announced the CGL 2016 Tier-1 Exam dates. Earlier, the exam was postponed to the month of August.
Now the Tier-1 Exam is scheduled on 27th August, 2016
A Few changes are introduced in the pattern of the CGL 2016 exam
1) Tier-1 is reduced to 100 Questions, with 25 questions in each section. Total time is reduced to 75 minutes
2) Tier-2 remains unchanged.
3) A Descriptive Paper in introduced in Hindi and English
Final Merit: The final merit is based on the marks obtained in all the 3 tiers.
Last But not the Least, SSC CGL 2016 will be an Online exam

You can obtain the SSC CGL Notification, in two ways: either Online from the Official SSC Website of SSC OR Offline from the Employment News Paper.
1) From SSC’s Website: If you have a smartphone, Laptop Or PC, then this is the most convenient way to get the SSC CGL Notification. SSC had made a special page named “Notices” on its Website, and you can download the PDF from this page and save it for future references
2) From Employment Newspaper: Employment Newspaper is one of few the Newspapers in India, with high readership. Its a weekly newspaper and it contains collection of Govt Jobs.
Apart from the Official Website, SSC will publish the Detailed Advertisement in the Employment Newspaper.

The popularity of this exam is to the extent that every year 80 lakh applicants appear for this exam.
The Exam is held once in a years and the candidates selected in this exam are awarded with Group D Central Govt Jobs (Lower Division Clerk and Data Entry Operators). The basic Eligibility criteria for CHSL 2017 exam is 10+2 and age of 18 to 27 years
Even, if you are appearing for CGL Exam, then you should also go for CHSL Exam, as Syllabus for CGL Exam is similar for SSC CHSL Syllabus, in terms of Sections. Only difference is difficulty level. While in CGL Exam, the Questions are asked up-to Graduation level, while in CHSL Exam, the Questions have difficulty level of 10+2
